ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) comprehensively describes what is to be done to professionally manage IT services and IT products. Economic soundness is the express core of this methodology, derived from the practice of numerous successful IT organizations.
ITIL is a recognized worldwide reference model for design of service processes at IT providers. It is not a norm itself, however, it is compatible with a row of existing standards such as BS15000, ISO 9001 or ISO17799 (IT security). Invitations to tender, customer requirements, communication etc. relate ever more to the ITIL terms and model. The advantage is clear in the consistency, transparency and better communication as well as improved interfaces to the customer.
