1990

For the first time one comprehensive Sales and Distribution company has been founded. The new Sales and Distribution subsidiary FSC (Focus Software Consulting) was offering their services countrywide.

1990

The full-service package from software to trainings was distributed by one company. FSC is a pre-company to the present-day RI-C (Raiffeisen Informatik Consulting), which is still the counterpart concerning Software and License Management for the Raiffeisen Banking Group and other customers.

1991

Ready, set, go – a perfect, customer-orientated system has been implemented: the role of EOB has been established within the RRZ. Since then the EOB is the personal contact for customers.

1991

Well-trained EDV Organization Consultants were established as single point of contact for Raiffeisen Banking Institutes. They guarantee a constant communication on services and products and solve many problems spontaneously. Due to their high acceptance by our customers, the EOB became an extraordinary positive iconic personality for the RRZ and they are still the first place to go for our customers.

1992

The growth of the RRZ was straight-lined. Lack of space was a permanent topic. After 3 years construction period the employees moved to the new RRZ building.

1992

Due to the straight-lined growth concerning headcount of the RRZ, the employees had to move to a new building in the Hollandstrafle 11-13. 360 employees worked in the new office building with state-of-the-art working conditions. But two years later lack of space will arise once again.

Phone cardA collector's item

Today you really have to search for a while to find a telephone box. If you wanted to make a phone call in public area in the past, you either needed coins of shilling or the popular phone cards. Sometimes you can still see phone boxes, but phone cards are completely gone. In the 90ies there was a huge hype around these plastic cards. Many companies used these cards for advertising. Therefore in 1992 on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the new building, phone cards with the emblem of the building were handed over to all guests. In the meantime, these phone cards had a substantial collector’s value – unfortunately we do not know the present value of these cards.

1993

RRZ as network operator: New services arose from the superior network infrastructure and from the liberalization of the postal services.

1993

Since 1993 network services are offered by the RRZ as a network operator in collaboration with the partner data processing service center Raiffeisen Geld Organization (RGO). In addition to the Bunderl‰nderversicherung, who connected their whole online network via RGO network, a lot of new customers were interested in this infrastructure. The length of the data lines of the online network was already 7.500 kilometers. This service became a great success and is now known as „raivan“.

1993

In March 1993 the mainframe processing from Raiffeisenverband Vorarlberg as well as from the Raiffeisen Banking Institutes of Vorarlberg were transferred to RRZ.

1993

The solution was as follows: All mainframe transactions run in the RRZ in Vienna. That means that the online operation and the following batch processing for the Raiffeisenverband Vorarlberg and the Raiffeisen Banking Institutes of Vorarlberg took place in Vienna. The bank statements and reports were transferred via data lines to printers in the RRZ Vorarlberg. With this solution a delivery in-time to the Raiffeisen Banking Institutes of Vorarlberg could be guaranteed. Due to time criticality and economic reasons a physical transport won’t be meaningful.

1993

Do you know RABE or OASE? RRZ was always imaginative in the development of product labels.

1993

RABE (Raiffeisen Aviso Bearbeitung) was a new EDV supported possibility, to order shilling, foreign exchanges, coins and votive medals. OASE (Order Abwicklung schnell erledigt) was a new developed system to place and forward stock orders. Due to the relational database a tightly focused and fast view on account turnover could be enabled.

1993

In the course of the takeover of the technical field services in 1993 the replacement of the new Racon-Bank terminal system started.

1993

This replacement lasted till 1996 and was the necessary basic technology, to keep up with the high-speed changes in IT. The new Racon Software like Racon-Bank, Racon-Office and Racon-Credit in addition to the own technical field service was an all-purpose solution, where almost all business processes of a Raiffeisen Banking Institute were automated.

1995

A robot system was installed in the Hammer Purgstall Gasse. The storage of data was done by the full automated robot system.

1995

In a data center system room, a robot system GRAU ABBA2 was installed in collaboration with David. Since then data stored on tapes can also be administrated on an electronic basis.

1996

1996

It is the pioneer area of the WWW, the dawn of the worldwide internet breakthrough. By the foundation of the internet service provider Netway the RRZ positioned itself in the front line.

To make the internet more popular in the finance sector, internet points were installed in the foyers of the Raiffeisen Banking Institutes. Netway – the subsidiary of the RRZ – became two years after foundation market leader among Austrian Internet Service Providers.

One farm for all1997

The relocation due to the continuous growth became more or less a tradition. In the new location in the Raiffeisenhaus Vienna the first server farm was implemented and all server (producer-independent) were moved to the data center. More than 100 servers were connected to one redundant system, connected to a local high-speed network. Due to the centralized administration and the horizontal scalability, changes can be managed fast and easy. The server farm was connected with RAIVAN and the host system through a high-speed network connection.

1997

The Skyline of the canal of the Danube was changed. In 1998 the foundation stone ceremony for the new office building of the RRZ in presence of Mayor of Vienna Dr. Michael H‰upl and the Governor of Lower Austria Dr. Erwin Prˆll has taken place.

1997

The new office tower building is 66 meters high and has 17 levels. The new building has space for more than 600 employees. Next to the office building a very modern indoor adventure swimming pool with an excellent wellness area was also constructed. This was a multiple complimented and successful public-private-partnership implementation.

1998

Two main topics dominated IT at the end of the 90ies: the introduction of the EURO and the millennium adjustment. Both topics caused new investments and ongoing growth.

1998

The problem in context of the millennium adjustment was, that several programs and system controls were working with double-digit annual details. If these data would be used for comparisons, the results would be wrong, because the number 00 is lower than 99. If such a wrong result would led to a maloperation in the program, was dependent on the error handling in the program itself. In preparation of the millennium the affected software was either replaced or the annual details were changed to four digits.

1999

In this year the longtime mainframe partnership with UNIQA started, which led to the takeover of the full IT infrastructure and IT operations in the year 2003.

1999

To fulfill the IT requests of UNIQA and Raiffeisen Banking Institutes a new data center was implemented. The mainframe partnership – known as DCS – was established to reduce operating unit costs and guarantee high availability and correctness. DCS was an essential part of the investment strategy of the RRZ.

Extensive investment strategy1999

It was also the most intensive area concerning the investment strategy of the RRZ. During peak period the RRZ (and also as RIZ) had 21 associate companies in different business areas. Investments were also done outside of Austria e.g. Above Net. This was an US investment with the objective to conquer Eastern European Markets via Vienna. Only the announcement on the joint venture with the RRZ led to a 100% price advance. But also, the RRZ had a benefit. The company shares were bought by the Americans almost at the top of the stock market boom. After the move-out of Above Net the space was used as housing and hosting area. With the implemented double floor and two diesel generator sets this space was perfectly fit for technical space leasing and this was the starting point for the market entry.
